The first time I heard about Scarborough, was when I holidayed at the 12 Apostles Hotel in 2014. I knew then my soul would not rest until I had set my foot there. So when my friend invited me to join her, the boyfriend and his best friend on the road trip to this conservation village, I simply could not say no.

Designated driver, unofficial tour guide
Our designated driver, for our benefit, decided to take the most scenic route, making a few stops along the way for refreshments and sight seeing. One of the spots was Hout Bay. This town is popular for its fresh fish, as it is for being a ‘Republic’ of the 80’s. In fact, our unoffcial tour guide told us that people managed to convince immigration officers around the world to stamp their Hout Bay passports (imagine). ‘It must have been easy to do that back then, because technology was not as advanced as it is now,’ he explained.

Chapman’s Peak

Now this baby meanders between Noordhoek and Hout Bay on the Atlantic Coast. The route is about 9km, with countless curves. For me ‘Chappies’, was the push I needed to cement my love for the magnificent Mother City. This area is the perfect spot for a lot of activities, including hiking, running, picnicking and even cycling.

Picture perfect

Our last stop was at Misty Cliff. No adjective I know would ever fully describe the beauty that is this outpost. Think postcard material.
It was a great day to be outdoors, so the gents went surfing and the girls brought out the towels and soaked in some sun, while reading. You know what they say, the best things in life are free.

PS: Do forgive me for the out of focus images, I wasn’t wearing my glasses.
