After our brief affair with the picturesque Knysna, it was only fitting that we make a stop in Tsitsikama, seeing that it’s just around the corner. Although we had brought along some camping equipment we decided to stay in the chalets (best decision ever! It was freezing). We were also keen to make our own food (Himself is the best cook I know, so I was happy to lay back and let him handle the pots or the braai in this case). For dinner he braai’d some pork chops, sausage and made a beautiful salad which we washed down with a bottle of wine. I should mention that all our breakfast meals were the same, a classic English breakfast. Himself has ashamedly recruited me into his banting team and I’m all up for diets that don’t restrict me from… well just eating!
Our day in Tsitsikama began with a walk to Storms River. I should mention that adrenaline junkies will never get bored in this part of the world, there is a lot of stuff to do think canoeing, snorkeling, hiking among many others. The next morning we woke up super early to do the Waterfall Trail, the hardest to tackle but very rewarding as it is the most scenic of all the trails there. Unfortunately we had to cut the expedition short and end it at the caves as it was starting to rain and the rocks were becoming more slippery. At this point we were just 3.8 kilometers into the hike and had just under thirty minutes to wrapping it up. We also had to check out before 10 am, basically time was also against us. So we had to run back to our chalet to pack up and be on the road. I’m not too sad about not finishing the hike though, we now have a reason to go back. PS: We spotted a Blue Duiker… that was something special, unfortunately it ran away before I could capture it on my camera.
