Mount Rigi is only a stone’s throw away from Christine and Otto’s house. You can see it in all it’s glory from the kitchen window. No one would ever accuse you of being inattentive if you passed it off as a hilly forest; take this from someone who spent a week looking at this non-threatening heap of earth thinking she could run it.

A view of Mount Riggi

A beautiful view of Mount Rigi.

It has so much to offer

Rigi offers the best views there is to see and for this reason it is called the queen of mountains, because it gives you a panoramic view of  Switzerland. Rigi is not to be underestimated, it is a mountain that will get you huffing and puffing from the get go. Climbing is just one of the ways to get to the top, but there are trains and cables that will take you right up to Rigi Kulm, the highest point of this mountain.

Another great thing about this mountain is that there are shebeens along the way, so if you really need to catch your breath you can sit down for a cold one. Personally, I feel one should be really dedicated to drinking if they would climb that high up just to have a fat glass of beer.

The scramble to Rigi Kulm was tough, but not impossible to do and it’s by far my favourite trail, because it combined two of my favourite things, magnificent views and exercise.
